Profile Summary
Islam Abou El-Magd is a distinguished scientist and policy advisor specializing in Earth observation, remote sensing, and environmental engineering, with more than 35 years of experience in academia, research, and international consultancy.
He currently serves as Acting President of Egypt’s National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) and Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for African Affairs and Space Technology.
Throughout his career, Prof. Abou El-Magd has played a key role in advancing geospatial technologies for environmental monitoring, climate change assessment, and sustainable development. He has contributed to the development of Egypt’s national space initiatives and previously served as Vice Executive President of the Egyptian Space Agency.
He holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Southampton, UK, and has authored more than 60 scientific publications. He has also worked as an international consultant for organizations including FAO, UNDP, and WHO on environmental management and geospatial applications.
